Incumbent tops primary candidate who filmed himself in the Capitol on Jan. 6

    • May 15, 2024

Republican Rep. Carol Miller won her party’s primary in West Virginia’s 1st Congressional District, defeating Derrick Evans, a former state lawmaker who served three months in prison after pleading guilty to a felony for participating in the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol.

The three-term congresswoman is a staunch supporter of former president Donald Trump. Miller, a bison farmer from southern West Virginia, was among 126 Republican House members who, in December 2020, filed an amicus brief in support of a lawsuit contesting the results of the 2020 election. She also voted against certifying election results from some states on Jan. 6, 2021.
